We have always regarded the provision of advice, services and solutions in Family Law and Defacto matters as a core area of our practice. We take particular care in understanding the peculiar problems associated with separation – particularly for people living in regional communities.
We also understand the flow on complications separation can cause to business, its particular impact on children and the emotional trauma caused to people. We have cumulative experience of over 50 years between four lawyers who provide advice in this increasingly complex area of law. Under the direction of Marg Kummerfeld two lawyers practice almost exclusively in Family law matters. We focus on positive outcomes for our clients.
Marg Kummerfeld is a partner of the firm and has many years of experience both in general litigation and in family law. She is a qualified mediator with the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia and is well versed in the continual developments in this area of law. Marg undertakes the more complex property and children matters including superannuation splitting and the succession and planning issues that follow on after resolution.
Claire Riddell has been with Bell Dixon Butler since October 2004 practicing in the area of family law, domestic violence, divorce and Defacto matters. Claire is particularly familiar with the Child Support Agency and is able to efficiently deal with issues that involve this complex Government department. Claire's past experience with Legal Aid in South Australia also brings a range of skills to the Family Law team that is of great assistance to our clients.

DO I NEED A LAWYER?
We know that many people are unsure if a problem has a legal solution – particularly in relation to the complex issues raised by separation. This can create enormous stress and often a short consultation with a lawyer will provide you with a real direction. To encourage people to go the next step and visit a lawyer we have developed an Initial Consultation Initiative where you can visit a lawyer or even talk over the telephone for up to 30 minutes for a fixed fee of $110.00. If you ultimately proceed with an issue this consultation can be incorporated into your file.
As a regional law firm we understand our clients may have particular issues arising either by reason of distance or accessibility. We have telelink and videoconferencing facilities to overcome these issues and close the tyranny of distance between you and your lawyer.
Remember, even in matters where proceedings may be necessary, 95% settle in the early stages and 1 in 100 might proceed to trial.
